In 2019 the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child is celebrated and, in this context, several initiatives are scheduled within the framework of the Week of the Rights of the Child, promoted by the Municipality of Sertã, Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ). ) from Sertã, Compass Project and Sertã School Grouping.

From 18 to 22 November will be placed in Alameda da Carvalha, in Sertã, the "Children's Rights Clothesline" and on November 20 will also take place in Alameda da Carvalha, the "Pajama Day" in which children, teachers and Educators will wear pajamas, which symbolizes the comfort and well-being provided by the family. In this context, various awareness-raising activities are foreseen for the importance of all children having a family.

On November 22, the House of Culture of Sertã hosts the Panel / Debate on "Children's Rights". The program begins at 6 pm with the opening session which will include speeches by José Farinha Nunes, Mayor of Sertã, José Carlos Fernandes, Director of Sertã School Grouping, and Ilda Bicacro, President of CPCJ Sertã.

At 6.30 pm, the panel will begin with the theme "Being a child in Portugal" with Margarida Mesquita (ISCSP-UL), "The Rights of the Child in Children's Literature - its importance" with Celeste Gonçalves (writer), " Exploitation and sexual abuse of children "with Diogo Vicente (GNR) and" Scouting: Safe Movement "with Ivo Faria (National Head of the National Listening Corps). At about 7:50 pm, the debate follows, which will be moderated by Rui Lopes (journalist).

The Convention on the Rights of the Child was unanimously adopted by the United Nations on November 20, 1989. This document sets out a broad set of fundamental rights (civil, political, economic, social and cultural) for all children, as well as their respective rights. provisions for its application. Portugal ratified the Convention on 21 September 1990.
