Carlos Afonso, graduated in Architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes in Lisbon, works as an architect with work built in Portugal, Cape Verde and Angola. In parallel with architecture, he developed a taste for drawing and painting, having held several collective and individual exhibitions; participated in artistic projects, namely “Once upon a time” adaptation of the Little Red Riding Hood tale, composed of dry pastel drawings printed on aluminum plate and more recently he has dedicated himself to the painting of oil portraits.

The exhibition “The Art of Recycling” presents a set of drawings made on cardboard boards collected from the street, using mixed techniques where Pastel Seco prevails. With these works, the author intends, in addition to the pleasure of drawing them, to demonstrate that all supports are valid for expressing ourselves, even if the works have an ephemeral character. This attitude is also intended to draw attention to recycling and its transformation into works of plastic expression. The opening of the Carlos Afonso Drawing Exhibition is scheduled for the 2nd of July, Saturday, at 17:00 and will be open to the public, in the Municipal Gallery, until the 14th of July, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 15:00 and 19:00.
